Cruise ship heading towards Aruba rescues 24 castaways

(Oranjestad)—On Wednesday, April 12th, the cruise ship Carnival Spirit was on its ways to Aruba where crew members spotted 24 castaways in the distance. According to local news outlet, NoticiaCla, these castaways were immediately rescued by crew members of the ship and brought on board.

NoticiaCla also reports that the ship was close to the coasts of The Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico when officials on the cruise ship noticed 24 people stranded in the ocean.

These officials say that they immediately contacted the National Coast Guard of Puerto Rico in order dock at the island and transfer the castaways on their route towards Aruba.

The cruise ship Carnival Spirit set sail on Saturday, April 8th, from a port in Miami and had no stops planned for Tuesday. After the incident, the ship arrived in Aruba Wednesday morning according to schedule and set sailed again around 10pm that same day.
