(Oranjestad)—Starting Monday, October 13th, until the end of 2025, the California Lighthouse will be closed to the public. The reasoning behind this is that the lighthouse is due for a major maintenance.
Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba (SMFA) is the owner of the lighthouse and operates under a maintenance plan in which each year, different monuments belonging to the foundation receive upkeep.
Recently, work was completed on the Casita Geel on Weststraat, and now it will continue with the California Lighthouse.
Due to the lighthouse’s location and its daily use, it is one of the monuments that requires a lot of maintenance.
The work will be carried out by GPS Construction and is expected to last approximately two and a half months.
Among other things, repairs will be made to the top and the walls, and the interior and exterior of the lighthouse will be completely painted.
SMFA thanks Experitours and the general public for their understanding and cooperation during the period that the lighthouse will be closed.
