Get ready for some heat

The Meteorological Department of Aruba announced a warning for hot weather in the coming period. The months of August, September and October are known to have high temperature and high humidity. Also the winds are less strong in these months creating a heat that is felt much more than normally is the case.

The temperatures in the coming months are expected to be between 34°c (93 f) and 36°c (97 f). The percentage of humidity will be between 85 and 90 percent. The sentiment voice temperature is around 43° c (109 f) to 46° c (115 f) during the day. The nights will not cool down much up to a minimum of 27°c (81 f) to 29°c (84 f). This can form a risk to people who are not in the circumstances to cool down their body. Therefore it is extremely important for locals and visitors of Aruba to take precautions with the extreme weather circumstances. Especially elderly people and children should be taken care off by limiting outdoors activities as much as possible and go out early mornings or late afternoon when the sun is not that strong. Use your air-conditioning if you have one or open your windows to create some air circulation.

Drink lots of water and try to cool down your body if you feel without energy. Be very careful with alcohol. Drinking alcoholic beverages in hot weather can have serious consequences. During extreme heat, we sweat more and drinking alcohol can cause us to lose fluids because of an increase in urination. This combination can lead to dehydration. Dress in light colors, preferably white. The only color that does not attract heat is white because white objects reflect all visible wavelengths of light. Black – the color that absorbs all visible wavelengths of light – attracts the most heat, followed by violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red, in descending order.

The above simple precautions will reduce your chances to health issues. Take care of yourself and your loved ones and nothing stands in your way to enjoy your vacation worriless or being a happy local.
