“Culture needs to be lived. And we need pioneers and driving forces behind this organization to ensure that traditional culture and music remain alive in our community.”

(Oranjestad)—On Sunday, May 28th, the third ‘Fiesta Tipico den Bario’* (Typical Neighborhood Party) took place at the Savaneta Neighborhood Center, organized by the ‘Union di Tipiconan Rubiano’ Foundation, also known as the UTR Foundation.

The goal for these “fiesta tipico” is to take place each month in a different neighborhood center across the island. As is known to locals, Fiesta Tipico den Bario is a beautiful initiative by our leaders of the Tipico groups in Aruba to promote traditional music in our beloved neighborhoods. Events like these promote living our culture and contribute to preserving our vibrant folklore in the neighborhoods and passing it on to the younger generations. Additionally, during the Fiesta Tipico den Bario, the Government of Aruba presents acknowledgments to those who support, promote, and preserve our vibrant folklore in our neighborhoods. These celebrations are made possible thanks to UNOCA, which provides funds to cover the expenses of this cultural event.

The first Fiesta Tipico took place in March at the Brazil Neighborhood Center, the second in April at Club Sport Boys, both of which were successful. The fourth gathering will take place in July at the Lago Height Neighborhood Center.

At this month’s ‘fiesta tipico’, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes was present and enjoyed a highly pleasant atmosphere, where many citizens visited the traditional event and enjoyed the Aruban ambiance. Prime Minister represented Minister of Culture Xiomara Maduro, who was unable to attend. This time, Mrs. Mathilde Paskel-Boekhoudt and Mr. Esteban Banchi Koolman were recognized for their outstanding collaboration and contribution to the musical tradition of Aruba.

If you are interested to experience an aspect of true Aruban culture, these monthly Fiesta Tipico den Bario should definitely be at the top of your list: “Culture needs to be lived. And we need pioneers and driving forces behind this organization to ensure that traditional culture and music remain alive in our community,” expressed the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister extends an invitation to every citizen and visitor for the next Fiesta Tipico den Bario on July 2nd at the Lago Height Neighborhood Center.

*Fiesta Tipico den Bario: literally translated to Typical Neighborhood Party, refers to the celebration of what is “typical” of Aruban culture.
