ORANJESTAD — Foundation Rosea Cultural presents the theatrical play called ‘Ruta di Mi sombra’ or Journey of my shadow on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at Cas di Cultura. The event is to raise funds for the foundation Adopt an Addict. This play in Papiamento is based on the real life of ‘Natalie’ and ‘Ski”, 2 well-known persons of Aruba who lived as addicts.

The play shows the hard life on the streets, the physical and mental abuse they went thru, the use of drugs and also the consequences their addiction caused to their mental health. In the play they are called ‘Natania and Johnito’. Different circumstances, childhood trauma and an abusive relationship with her mother is what lead ‘Natania’ to such life. ‘Natania’ wanted to leave that life behind her and searched for help. With the support of the foundation Adopt and Addict she was sent to the Dominican Republic for rehabilitation. Sadly, after a long and hard battle ‘Natania’ passed away due to cancer.

The purpose of the play is to serve as a wake-up call for the entire community with regards to these issues. Nowadays the number of cases of drug addicts has reached a new trend in which the age of the addicts is decreasing. More and more young people are becoming addicts. This is something that needs to be addressed to with priority.

The play is written by three authors; Jarmine Acosta, Marcia Dirks and Madeline Kelly in collaboration with key information received from Mrs. Audrey Croes – Lacle of the Adopt an Addict foundation. The play is directed by Madelene Kelly and Jarmine Acosta. Main actors are Judith Werleman, Dany Marquez, Marcia Dirks and a cast of young actors.

In 2018 a short version of this play was presented at the Festival of Mascaruba and it was a complete success. This year the play will be presented only on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at Cas di Cultura starting at 7:30 PM. Due to intensity of certain scenes this play is not suitable for children younger than 16 years.

Tickets are available at Maggy’s Oranjestad, Sta.Cruz and San Nicolas, De Wit & Van Dorp stores, Plaza Bookshop, SuperFood, Coffeebreak, El Gallo Rojo , all board members of Adopt an Addict and members of Fundacion Rosea Cultural.
