Aruba Conservation Foundation together with local partners ScubbleBubbles Foundation, University of Aruba and international partner Wageningen University & Research, is proud to announce that after months of anticipation, the documentary, โTurning the Tideโ will be available for streaming on ACFโs YouTube channel in celebration of World Oceans Day.
World Oceans Day is celebrated globally on June 8th to honor the vital role oceans play in sustaining life and to inspire collective action to protect them.This yearโs theme, โWonder: Sustaining What Sustains Usโ, is a timely reminder of the critical role our oceans play. This is especially true here in Aruba, where our marine environment is not only a natural treasure, but also the foundation of our islandโs identity, economy, and future. In recognition of this global day, โTurning the Tideโ offers the community of Aruba and beyond an opportunity to renew their commitment to the conservation of Arubaโs Nature.
Filmed over a 16-month period, the documentary premiered in Aruba on January 31, 2025, at The Movies Aruba, where it captivated the local community. It screened for six weeks, attracting a total of 1,846 viewers, a testament to the communityโs strong interest in marine conservation. ACF also invited all of Arubaโs secondary schools to register their students for private screenings as parto of their education on Arubaโs nature. In total, 946 students from Colegio Arubano, Colegio Nigel Matthew, Colegio San Antonio, De Schakel College, Filomena College, International School of Aruba, Maria College Mavo, and Mon Plaisir Havo participated.
โTurning the Tideโ documents the first-of-its-kind pilot project to restore Arubaโs mangroves and coral reefs, showcasing the islandโs natural beauty while also highlighting the complex and collaborative work involved in ecosystem restoration. The film features contribution from local, regional and international experts.
ACF, together with its partners ScubbleBubbles Foundation, the University of Aruba, and Wageningen University and Research, invite the community of Aruba, Arubans living abroad, and anyone passionate about nature conservation to celebrate World Oceans Day 2025 by watching โTurning the Tideโ โ a powerful film that underscores the urgency of protecting our marine environment and the communities that depend on it.
