(Oranjestad)—This past Sunday marked another milestone for the Aruba Birdlife Conservation and a win for our local burrowing owls, “Shoco”. At Iberostar Joia, ABC inaugurated its second artificial burrows for the shocos that live in that area.
A part of their National Shoco Conservation Plan, this new artificial burrow represents the dedication of both local foundations and stakeholders in Aruba’s tourism to deepen cooperation and protect what is most precious on the island: Our wildlife.
The first artificial burrow was installed by ABC back in 2019 in Tiera del Sol. Subsequently in late 2024, the first owl sanctuary was established there. In this next endeavor for conservation, ABC has plans to collaborate with other hotels and stakeholders on the island to create green corridors or mini-hubs where our local Shocos can live.
